Old people are special. They sometimes seem like quick-tempered kids.
Near Suzhou Library, at the crossroads, beside the zebra crossing, in front of the bushes, there is always an old grey-haired traffic police assistant. Every time I pass there, I can see him standing there, wearing his light-colored uniform that sets off his dark wrinkled face. He keeps shouting in a husky voice directing the traffic. He's such a rough old man, I will say to myself, and he isn't worth anybody's respect.
The other day, I was trying to get a taxi and happened to be just standing beside that old policeman. The traffic was so busy and he was shouting like crazy as usual. Suddenly, he turned around, his eyes wide open, staring at me while shouting, 'This is a no-parking area! No taxi is here! Move!' I got very angry and ran in the other direction. To my surprise, he turned around again and shouted to me, 'Hey! Walk down this street and turn left! That's where you get a taxi!' and went right back to work.
I was touched. Day after day, he has to stand in the same place, face and bear the busy, dusty and noisy traffic, and shout! He has to shout, or nobody will hear him! What’s more, there may be pedestrians disobeying his directions, drivers ignoring his shouting, and rude people quarrelling or even fighting with him. Despite this, he never quits. I respect him deeply. He keeps on doing what he can to help our society in his own way. Why should we misunderstand people like him?’ after he helped me, I shouted "Thank you" back to him.
Now every time I pass the crossroads, I'll greet this special old man that I can't help but respect. I respect his hard work and attitude. He deserves everybody's respect.
That's all. Thank you for your attention.
